MY FAVORITE PRODUCTS

As a former breastfeeding mom, Celebrity Baby Blog owner/publisher, and a current lactation consultant, I've had the chance to use, review, and evaluate many products geared towards new families. Here are a few on my ever growing list.

Mother and Baby

UNDERSTANDING NEWBORN BEHAVIORS

The Mount Sinai Parenting Center has created guides for all infant and toddler stages and offers great tips for all ages and stages.

Pumping while breastfeeding

THE DAIRY FAIRY NURSING/PUMPING BRAS

The Dairy Fairy's ingenious combination nursing/pumping bras allow you to nurse, pump, AND nurse while you pump! I'm a particular fan of their Arden 2.0 bra for the first few months at home. The crossover panel lets you loosen or tighten the fit based on your breast fullness. Each side is also independently adjustable. The 4" of hook and eye closure allows you to take this and their other bras from maternity to postpartum. When you're ready for more support, their Ayla bra (pictured above) which has a unique partial underwire is a gorgeous option.

Milkology Ultimate Breastfeeding Clas

GET A CRASH COURSE IN BREASTFEEDING

If you can't make it to a live breastfeeding class, Milkology's 90-minute long Ultimate Guide to Breastfeeding is a great and inexpensive option ($27). Broken up into short segments, you can view the course on your phone, tablet, or computer. (They also offer back-to-work and pumping courses for $19.)

Ardo Calypso Essentials Breast Pump

CLOSED-SYSTEM BREAST PUMPS

The only electric pump worth considering is one that has a physical barrier between the pump parts and the motor. This simple barrier prevents your milk, water, skin cells, etc. from getting into the motor and growing bacteria and mold. Yuck. The Ardo Calypso is one of my faves AND is included in many insurance plans' options.

Happy Baby

INEXPENSIVE PILLOWS

Save money by skipping those expensive nursing pillows and stock up on these $4 bed pillows from Target or any other mass retailer. Get a bunch and stuff them under your elbows to get arm support that will make feedings SO much more comfy.

Milk drop

BREASTMILK

It's not just for feeding! Put it on diaper rashes, scratches, baby acne, adult acne, pink eye, diaper rash - you name it!

BELLABAND BY INGRID AND ISABEL

Some women are concerned that people will see their nipple while breastfeeding. Truthfully, it only shows for a second before you pop your baby on. When I was breastfeeding, I was self-conscious about my mushy tummy when I pulled my shirt up. The BellaBand covers the top of your pants up to your torso - great for pregnancy too. It also feels really nice to have some support for your postpartum tummy. They used to be available at Target too.
